Meet Our Partner Producers

Take time to read the stories from some of our partner producers.

All are independent family farms who raise poultry and livestock for us according to our All Natural protocol. Because we know each of these farmers personally, how they treat their livestock and the history of each animal according to our protocol, we have a traceback system that assures you of the quality of your meat.

By buying from local producers like us, you can have confidence in the quality in the meat and in our sustainable agricultural practices.

Meet our Lamb Producers

Pine View Farms works with Len Tieszen from Hepburn, SK, who raises Katahdin sheep for local markets.

The popularity and demand for Katahdin meat has increased because the mild, lean meat has an excellent flavour that lacks the tallow taste. Katahdin producers attribute the mild flavour to a lack of wool. Less wool means less lanolin which typically contributes to the "mutton" taste sometimes associated with lamb.

Meet Our Pork Producers

Ben and Susan Loewen are hog farmers near Hague, Saskatchewan. Ben and Susan purchased their farm in 1994 from Ben's uncle Abe and Aunt Sara. This farm has been in the family for 100 years. In addition to pigs, the farm includes 4 quarters of land and 70 beef cows.

Ben and Susan started raising pigs four years ago simply because the grain farm was not doing so well and the farm yard had an unused barn available. Since both Ben and Susan were raised on the farm and had chored pigs in the past so they decided that rather than raising them with all the growth hormones and medications, they would do it like they did years ago.

Ben also works for Quiring Farms during spring and fall and part-time in winter. Susan is a stay-at-home mom who manages much of the farm while Ben is at work. Ben and Susan have three sons, Tyler, Jared and Kevin who are starting to take more of an interest in the farm as they grow up.

Meet Our Rabbit Producers

In 2009, we started processing rabbits. Joy Popowich at Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, is one of the only commercial rabbit growers in Saskatchewan. Until now, she had been exporting most of her rabbits but was looking for a local processor. We feel this is a win-win relationship and opens the market for Saskatchewan chefs to use Saskatchewan grown rabbits!

Meet Our Hutterite Partners

Local Hutterite colonies have become integral to the production side of Pine View Farms. We work with three colonies to raise animals according to our All Natural protocol which states that all poultry and livestock are raised on a healthy vegetarian diet, free of growth promoting medications, hormones and animal byproducts. We choose to work with "kindred souls", those farmers who ascribe to the same principles we do in both farming and business. Sunnydale Colony raises steers for Pine View Farms and Milden Colony raises the ducks.

Riverbend Farms, a Hutterite Colony near Waldheim, about 20 minutes north of Pine View Farms, raises the turkeys under contract for PVF. Because turkeys are a supply-managed agricultural sector in Canada, a farmer needs to own production quota to grow over 100 turkeys per year (which is where we started). Turkey quota is very difficult to acquire in the small quantity that we needed so we found a like-minded farm who owned quota with whom we could partner.

Like all our partner producers, Riverbend Farms ascribes to our All Natural Protocol. We have worked together for over 10 years now, building the market for All Natural turkeys. Pepper, the turkey boss, is a knowledgable and skilled farmer, and takes great care in raising birds specifically for Pine View Farms.
